This is a 10 seconds motion piece designed for Rochester Institute of Technology’s feast show in 2015, all the participators needed to start with the same square shape, and then ended up with it. In this way, all of the short motion pieces designed by different designers would be able to merge to one big project fluently.
What I designed for the 10 seconds was a short story about a thief. He was designed as the classic image of thieves. Because in the very short motion piece, I needed to tell the audiences who is the main character at the very first sight. And then, the thief was detected by the searchlight (which was transformed by the square), Under the searchlight, people found that the backpack started to move, it attempted, spread out, and swallowed the thief in the end. As a small detail, people will see the thief struggled in the black square.
As working on this project, I focused more on the motion rules and the graphic design. the most difficult part was the animation rules, when to blink, how to make the head turn to face out, and the what kind of keys should I set? All of the questions are new to me, and I’m happy I ended up with a successful motion piece.
